Further flights cancelled as ash cloud heads for Europe

News has just come in from our Edinburgh airport parking team that further flights have been cancelled in and out of UK airports as the ash cloud begins to drift over Europe.

Like all UK airport parking providers, we’ve been closely following the latest volcanic developments in Iceland - ever since Grimvotn first began erupting on Saturday spreading a cloud of ash into British airspace.

And though it was initially just our Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh airport parking bases which were affected by disruption to internal flights, the cancellations now also affect Newcastle, Durham Tees Valley, Humberside and East Midlands Airports.

As the ash cloud heads over northern parts of Europe, airlines have begun to cancel a fresh wave of services to Germany, Scandinavia and Holland.

BA says that it will not be operating any flights to and from Germany as a precaution on Wednesday 25th May, while KLM has cancelled flights from Holland and to and from Norway, Sweden and Germany until further notice.

Eastern Airways also announced today that it was cancelling three flights - Durham Tees Valley to Southampton, Humberside to Aberdeen and East Midlands to Aberdeen. easyJet – meanwhile - has cancelled flights to and from Hamburg and Copenhagen, Bmi flights to and from Hanover and Berlin, and Ryanair, services to and from Bremen, Lubeck, Magdeburg and Berlin.

It’s advised that anyone flying from the following airports should check the status of their flight: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Amsterdam, Dortmund, Berlin, Copenhagen or Hamburg.
