Gatwick gives passengers to St Tropez a pre-holiday glow

That first day on the beach can be a nightmare or lily-legged tourists. It seems men in particular are shy about baring their pasty white skin at the start of their holidays, specially when surrounded by toned and bronzed bodies at glamorous resorts such as St Tropez. Fortunately for them, Gatwick Airport had the ideal solution.

Along with cheap flights to St Tropez, the airport provided a special Gatwick Glow - a free spray tan for passengers jetting off to the sun. This offer was made folowng a survey by the airport which uncovered some personal hang-ups of beach-bound travellers. The biggest worry is peeling off before obtaining the requisite golden-brown suntan. Interestingly,  few were as bothered about paunches and cellulite as the colour of their skin. And while 29% of women put paleness at the top of their bugbear list, men wth the same fear amounted to 36%.

Marketing Manager of Gatwick Airport, Kim Francis feels starting a holiday with a tan can do wonders for self-esteem. "Gatwick Glow is designed to give our passengers a boost. We want them to ead off on holiday feeling great about themselves. An with half of holidaymakers worrying about burning on the first day, we partnered with St Tropez to offer the spray tan facility so passengers could fly off already sunkissed, which we hoped would prevent them from overdoing it on the beach."

The offer ended on Sunday 29th August, but, if successful, will no doubt be repeated for next season.
