Jet2 has announced that 100 new jobs will be created at Newcastle Airport in 2012.
The airline currently flies to 23 destinations from Newcastle and is promising another four new routes from May next year - Bodrum in Turkey, Reus in Spain and Rome and Venice in Italy.
The new routes will mean six aircraft will be based at the airport.
According to Jet2, this could see another 80,000 passengers a year travelling from Newcastle Airport - Good news for Newcastle airport parking providers.
Ian Doubtfire, managing director of Jet2, said: "We have been closely monitoring the success of this airport over the past year and we believe there's real potential for this region.
"In these tough economic times we are delighted to be creating more job opportunities for local people."
Dave Laws, chief executive at Newcastle Airport, thinks that the expansion will have a positive impact in the North East for a number of reasons. He said: "We are delighted that Jet2.com has invested further in Newcastle Airport, and in turn, the region.”
"We work closely with our local authority shareholders to improve prospects for the North East in these difficult economic times.
"These new routes will not only offer our customers the opportunity for leisure breaks, but also increase the scope for inbound tourism and business to business connections."
