Luton Airport sets out new plans for growth

L4P

Luton Airport Ltd has today revealed details of a new expansion programme to increase its passenger numbers to 18 million a year.

The plans to increase capacity at Luton Airport are thought to be in response to fears that the South East may face an aviation capacity shortage as soon as 2020.

Allowing a further seven million passengers a year to travel through Luton would help to ease congestion and also take the pressure off Heathrow and Gatwick.

The plans for growth come as good news for airside retailers, Luton Airport parking operators and the local area, with 6,000 jobs due to be created as a result.

It’s also thought the additional capacity can be achieved without the need for an additional runway or significant expansion of the current site.

A four week public consultation on the plans will begin on 6th February.
