Swiss regional carrier SkyWork Airlines has this week announced the launch of a new service between London City Airport and the Swiss capital Bern.Cheap airport parking specialists Looking4Parking have this week learned that Swiss airline SkyWork will begin running a new service between London City Airport and Bern from 27th March this year. The new flights will run six times a week with frequency increasing to two flights a day between Sundays and Fridays from 5th September. With fares starting from just £52 each way, it’s hoped that the new link will prove popular with businesses and holidaymakers alike. The route will initially be served by small 31-seater Dornier 328 planes but plans to raise capacity with the use of a 70-seat Bombardier Q400 will come into play after six months it is hoped. Once the route is established it’s likely to appeal to skiers as there is a free hold baggage allowance of 20kg on offer, plus the option to carry skis, boot bags and sports equipment from just £17. The new route is being considered as something of a coup for London City Airport as they recently lost their Basel route. When asked about the route in an interview with Travel Weekly, SkyWork Chief Executive Tomislav Lang said: “There is great prestige flying to London City Airport and we are determined to make a success of this route.”As well as its famous nearby skiing resorts, Bern has a huge amount to offer tourists with a lovely medieval old town, a well-known annual jazz festival and countless museums. Its chequered history has also left it with a unique and delicious cuisine peppered with French, Italian and German influences. If you’re planning to fly to Switzerland this year, why not check out our airport parking deals before you go?
