Royal Caribbean International has this week announced plans to include the Jamaican port of Falmouth in future cruise itineraries.Fans of Caribbean cruises will soon be able to visit the vibrant, historic port of Falmouth in Jamaica as part of their Royal Caribbean holiday thanks to the company’s decision to include the port in future cruise itineraries.Transformation into a world-class portThe port has been undergoing major redevelopment work to bring it into line with the requirements of Oasis Class cruise liners and the new look harbour will be opening next month to accept its first visitors.As part of the redevelopment project, Falmouth has been fitted out with a two-berth pier, shops, restaurants and a transportation hub. The next phase of the regeneration work will include hotel and residential units along with additional restaurants and retail spaces.The gateway to JamaicaAs well as providing a fascinating historical insight into the darker side of British colonialism, Falmouth is also a gateway for more than 60 shore excursions on the north coast of Jamaica. The formal opening of Falmouth port will take place on March 22nd when Oasis of the Seas makes its maiden call.When asked about the imminent opening of the new port, Jamaica Transport and Works Minister Mike Henry said: “Our sights have always been set on being the top cruise destination, and with the best-in-class berthing facilities at the historic Falmouth port, we’ll now easily welcome the world’s largest ships.”Royal Caribbean’s land operations Senior Vice President Craig Milan said: “We are delighted to see Voyager of the Seas make the first-ever ship call at historic Falmouth.”“A superior guest experience”“By partnering with the Port Authority of Jamaica, we are working to deliver our shared vision of Falmouth’s rebirth.
