Leading low budget carriers Ryanair have recently announced plans to maintain their summer flight schedule out of Liverpool despite planned cutbacks at many other airports.Bosses at Liverpool Airport are delighted this month as Ryanair confirmed that their summer 2011 timetable would deliver a similar capacity to last year’s. With the low budget carrier reducing capacity by up to 20% at many other UK airports, Liverpool Airport can count itself very lucky to have survived intact in the way that it has.Although the new summer 2011 schedule features a more limited number of destinations from Liverpool, there are increased services on some of the airline’s more popular routes. It’s hoped that this will help give travellers from the North West a greater choice when it comes to touching down in their favourite holiday destinations. In particular, there will be a greater focus on traditional summer sun destinations such as Alicante, Faro and Malaga.
Nick Smillie, Aviation Sales Director for Peel Airports who own and operate Liverpool Airport commented, “In the current economic climate, to be able to retain existing levels of business from airlines such as Ryanair who are cutting back by as much as 20% of their operations elsewhere in the UK, is quite an achievement.”
“Ryanair’s programme from here will concentrate on popular, traditional, Mediterranean destinations giving those looking for great low cost, family summer sun holidays, far greater opportunities than in previous years.”
