The redevelopment of Southampton Port has been given the personal support of The Shipping Minister, Mike Penning.
Redeveloping of two existing berths and dredging of the port will need to be done to allow it to take super-size tankers.
The Marine Management Organisation and environment ministers will need to approve the £150 million project in order for it to go ahead. If it does, the development will create hundreds of new jobs and safeguard more than 1,000.
John Denham MP led a recent debate in Westminster Hall on the future of Southampton Port and presented the case for urgent investment in order for the port to remain competitive. The project has faced delays due to red tape and mistakes made by The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) and the The Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs DEFRA) respectively.

If the redevelopment does go ahead it is good news for Southampton Port Parking companies who would benefit from the extra traffic flow through the Port.
