Turkey and Spain top Brit polls

According to Thomas Cook, Turkey and Spain are already proving the most popular holiday destinations for Brits planning their summer 2011 getaways.

Renowned for its great value breaks, Turkey has long been popular with UK tourists looking for a no-frills sun holiday. Despite the much publicised collapse of Goldtrail last year, it seems that our appetite for all things Turkish continues - with Turkish resorts already topping the charts as the most enquired-after destinations of 2011.

Behind Turkey in the popularity stakes, lie perennial British favourites the Balearics, the Canaries and mainland Spain. Interestingly enough, the US takes the last place in the top 5 with package holidays to Florida accounting for much of the interest.

When asked, Thomas Cook Sales Director Joanna Wild seemed genuinely upbeat about their 2011 bookings so far:

“Our stores across the country have been busy fielding enquiries for holidays to destinations ranging from Antalya to Zante. No doubt helped by the continued cold weather!”

“With holidaymakers taking advantage of our traditional post-Christmas early booking deals, the most popular summer 2011 queries have been for Turkey and the Spanish mainland and islands, while winter queries are showing a lean towards the islands of Tenerife and Lanzarote in the Canaries as many look to defrost in warmer climes.”
