What started life as a nothing more than a small grassy runway in World War One, Edinburgh Airport is now unrecognisable from it’s humble beginnings. The RAF relinquished ownership of Edinburgh Airport when, in 1947 a shuttle service began between Edinburgh and London. Since then many improvements and renovations by owners current owners BAA have seen Edinburgh become one of the fastest growing airports in the world.
Both long-term and short-term parking are available which is made easier with special lanes such as Fast Track and Security Express. Transportation between the airport and parking facilities have been carefully planned with the convenience of the traveller in mind. Edinburgh offers many amenities for travellers ranging from luxurious massages by trained therapists from OMH Therapies, to coin operated massage chairs.
Numerous dining options are available to passengers throughout the terminal building, with an array of restaurants and eateries offering both full meal services or snack and take out options. Several establishments are located as such so the diner has full view of the runway allowing them to watch the arrival and departure of a variety of aircraft.
The terminal also boasts its own airport art gallery, where paintings and other forms of art are available for purchase –a packing and shipping service is also available for customers to eliminate any problems with breakage or excess baggage.
The physically impaired or elderly traveller can find making the journey from car to departure gate a difficult and stressful one. At Edinburgh wheelchairs and attendants are available to offer assistance with these matters, airport parking staff can be informed whereby in turn a wheelchair attendant will be summoned to assist. For other passengers who are hard of hearing or visually impaired additional arrangements can be made.
Many passengers feel uneasy about leaving their vehicle unattended for a long period of time, fearing something will happen to their car when it’s parked at the airport. At Edinburgh this is not an issue. Edinburgh Airport Parking security provides a force of staff who are dedicated to keeping their customers vehicles safe by periodically patrolling car parks and remaining on full alert at all times, assuring their customers that their cars will be ready to drive away upon their return.
