This week high end cruise operators SeaDream have confirmed plans to run their first cruises up the Amazon river in 2012.
Under current plans, the tour operator will run two 20 day cruises on-board their luxury 112 person vessel, SeaDream II, both of which will sail from Barbados to Iquitos in Peru. On each voyage, passengers will be accompanied by an expert naturalist to provide them with information about the river and the fauna and flora it supports.
Both cruises will also feature an exciting itinerary of activities specifically designed to help travellers get closer to nature. These include a midnight canoe trip in search of crocodiles, snakes and other creatures and guided trips into the rainforest to get up close and personal with some of its most interesting plantlife.
When asked about the exotic new offering, SeaDream president Bob Lepisto said:
“We are thrilled to be adding the Amazon to our programme of itineraries. It is our [ships'] size and manoeuvreability that allows our yachts to reach tricky spots like Anavilhanas, Brazil and Iquitos, Peru.”
