This weekend Quantas will resume A380 flights to the United States again for the first time since the Rolls Royce midair engine failure. After the explosion on November the 4th over Singapore, all Airbus Flights were cancelled. This was caused by the failure of the Rolls Royce engine causing serious damage to that Airbus A380 aeroplane.
With the United States being one of the most popular destinations for travellers all over the world this is good news for both the passenger and Quantas. With the A380 being not only an expensive plane but the world’s largest commercial passenger plane this would of hit the company in the pocket hard due to the fact that they will be missing out not only on hundreds of thousands of customers, but also having to pay for upkeep of grounded planes.
The A380 being the largest passenger plane was before this accident seen as the pinnacle of commercial aerospace engineering, this warranted the high price tag and the need for keen aviation followers to have a flight on this new aircraft.
"The decision not to operate Los Angeles services allowed us to gain further operational experience before deploying the A380 on these routes," Joyce said.
"In close consultation with Rolls-Royce, we are now confident that we can begin flying the A380 to and from Los Angeles without any conditions on the use of maximum engine thrust" which is needed on the route, he said.
Qantas is still carrying out engine checks on its A380s as it gradually puts the world's largest passenger plane back into service. British engine-maker Rolls-Royce said in a statement it was "delighted" that Qantas had lifted its restrictions on the use of the A380s engines and returned them to normal service. With this in mind people wanting to either travel to the United States anyway or wanting to be onboard one of these new Airbus A380 planes should not think twice about taking a well earned break abroad.
