Weeze Airport, formerly known as Niederrhein Airport, is located on the boarder to the Netherlands in the communal area Weeze and is called „Dusseldorf Airport (Weeze)“ by Ryanair, even though it is 80 km away from Dusseldorf. This airport is one of the newest airports in Germany, as it was only built in 2002 and opened in 2003. Due to a flight passenger volume of 1.9 million in 2015, Airport Weeze is ranked 15th in Germany.
This civil airport has evolved from the British military airport of the RAF Laarbruch, which has strategically been built close to the Dutch border and far away from the formerly inner-German border. The current operating company of Weeze Airport belongs almost completely (99.93%) to a Dutch businessman and only 0.04% to the district Kleve and 0.03% to the communal area Weeze.
Airport Weeze serves mainly as traffic crossroad for Ryanair with about 90% of all flight movements. The second airline operating at this ariport is Transavia. Together, they offer international travel destinations such as Gran Canaria, Edinburgh, Tallinn, Mallorca, Rome and Crete.
Prior to their departure flights, travellers can enjoy food and drink in the panorama restaurant and the Carlsberg Lounge & Terrace on the first floor, a Gate-Cafe in the gate area, the bistro HeimatHafen in the arrivals area with an outside terrace, as well as the Charly – Weeze Gate Bar. Travellers, who are in need of a last-minute present or just enjoy shopping, can visit the Duty Free Shop on 500m². The airport is also available for conferences and congresses with conference rooms with a capacity of 70 persons. For curious visitors, who are interested in the history of the airport, there are 2.5 hours long tours that reveal a look behind the scenes of Airport Weeze, as well as Germany’s first and only Royal Air Force Museum, which will take you on a travel through the 45 years of the presence of the British RAF Laarbruch – Weeze and Niederrhein.
The flight passengers at Airport Weeze can currently choose between two different parking options on this website. As a cheaper option, “Light Meet & Greet Parking” is available, where you first drive to the car park and collect the driver, hand your car over to him at the airport and then, after an inspection of your vehicle, he will park it securely for you in the parking lot. For a slightly higher price, the „Full Meet & Greet Parking“ is available, which allows you to drive straight to the airport, hand over your car to a member of staff who will inspect your vehicle and then park it safely for you. Both options are fast, easy and comfortable – and upon your return, a member of staff will wait in the arrivals area for you to hand your car back to you.
For more information about the different parking options at Weeze Airport, our multilingual customer service team will gladly assist you by telephone and e-mail.
