    About Berlin Tegel airport

Berlin Tegel „Otto Lilienthal“ Airport is located about 11 km North West of Berlin city centre in the Reinickendorf district of the German capital. This airport is one of the 2 international airports in the Berlin region and with 21 Million passengers flying from it, it is Germany’s fourth busiest airport. The airport should have been closed in 2012, due to the expansion of Berlin Schönefeld Airport that would then become Berlin-Brandenburg. However, but as this plan has not yet been completed,Berlin Tegel Airport remains open until further notice or until the plans for a bigger airport come to fruition.

Air Berlin use this airport as their main base, which means it is the most prominent airline at Berlin Tegel. Many other international airlines have a presence at this airport, such as Aer Lingus, Air France, British Airways, Condor, Lufthansa and United Airlines, all of whom also offer direct flights from Berlin Tegel airport. Destinations which can be flown to from this airport include, New York, Chicago, Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Nice, Stockholm, Madrid and London.

There are five terminals at this airport, Terminals A, B, C, D and E. Terminal A is a hexagon shaped building, onto which aircrafts can dock themselves. Because of the increase in the number of flights to the Schengen-Area, there are less and less passport checks prior to boarding, which of course results in less waiting around. Terminal C first opened in 2007 and is predominantly used for Air Berlin flights. The other three terminals have undergone modifications due to increasing passengers; this lead amongst other things to the conversion of an old waiting area into airline desks.

Berlin Tegel’s four official car parks offer 2.500 parking spaces. However, passengers looking for a cheaper parking at Berlin Tegel at this airprot, are able to book a parking space at a car park in the surrounding area. All these car parks operate a free shuttle service to the airport in order to bring the passengers to the airport within the shortest time possible. Each car park is fully enclosed, fitted with CCTV and floodlit in order to guarantee your safety what’s more, all these parking facilities allow you to keep your car keys while you go away for extra peace of mind. The car park is only about. 4.6 km away from the airport so the transfer to the airport terminal only takes 6-8 minutes. This parking facility is open 24 hours/day, 365 days/year and is always staffed with friendly personnel.
